Greece > Stemnitsa

Peloponnese
Overview

Stemnitsa is a mountainous village of Arcadia, built on a height of 1800, hanging from a slope of Mainalon mountain. The village retains unharmed its traditional style and character. The wood and stone built houses travel you to the past.

local cuisine:

The village’s central square is the meeting point where most restaurants are. Visit them and try lemon baked lamb, wild hoar, boiled goat with mint, pork in salt with eggs and of course the famous rooster with local pasta. As in all Arcadian villages, in Stemnitsa homemade pies are a specialty.

see & do:
The geographical position of Stemnitsa is a must see itself. On one side the pine tree forest of Mainalon and on the other Loussios river, offer a wild charm to the place. Another point of interest is the Museum of popular art, based in the Hatzis Mansion and depicting local old crafts and professions.

tips & advice:

• Those that love alternative activities will be able to enjoy hiking, biking and skiing at the Mainalon ski centre.
• Don’t forget to visit one of the local pastry stores and try the amazing syrupy sweets.
