The place: From the charismatic Ribera del Duero and from 75% Tinto Fino, 15% Malbec, and 10% Merlot.
The variety that prevails in the vineyards around the river Duero, is named Tinto Fino or Tinta del País and is none other than the famous Tempranillo of Rioja, which, as its name reveals, matures fast, and withstands the cold climate of the area. The slight difference of the two varieties is the increased acidity of the Tinto Fino, due to the low temperature of the zone during the night time.
The wine got its name from the monastery of San Bernando, which is close to the winery. It appeared on the market for the first time in 1992.
The people: Another creation of the Danish enologist Peter Sissec, along with the Pingus that is widely known for its high quality as well as its astronomical price.
Having studied in Bordeaux, he transmitted the French's technical expertise to California, to then take over the technical management of the Hacienda Monasterio in Spain, creating some time later his own Dominio de Pingus.
The wine: An intense dark red color. Dense, with an explosive aroma of small red and black fruit, sugared, redcurrant marmalade and notes of licorice, pepper, cream caramel but also of a discreet barrel. Richness in taste and dense in the mouth, it is velvety, with elegant tannins, fruit in a liqueur. Long-lasting aftertaste.
