The place: The first appearance of the historical family Ribera del Duero. The new winery of the family is located in Fompedraza, near Peñafiel, in the heart of Ribera del Duero, aiming at a small production, creating a characteristic Ribera in the traditional way.
From the characteristic variety of the region, the Tinto Fino, at an altitude of 900 meters, Celeste was produced for the first time. Its creator was inspired the name Celeste, from the starlit sky in October, when the harvest takes place.
An interesting detail: The label faithfully represents the sky on a night in October, at 41,54º geographical latitude and 4, 14º geographical longitude, the exact location of the Torres vineyard in Fompedraza!
The people: With a wide range already in the company’s potential and a tradition of 135 years in the vinification of red wines, in Penedés and Concha de Barbera, restless Miguel Torres decided to become active in an area with intense potential, known for its excellent quality wines.
The long history of the family began in the XVII century, having in its ownership vineyards in the area Penedés, while its wines received international recognition in the XIX century.
The winery, which was founded in 1870 by D. Jaime Torres Vendrell, today has surpassed the Spanish borders, having in its ownership wineries in Chile (Curicó) and Sonoma in California, while it exports to more than 130 countries.
The wine: Youthful, red color and an explosive aroma of red and black fruit, typical of this variety, with the redcurrant prevailing, but also cherry, marmalade from berries and smoked notes of oak and bitter chocolate.
Fresh in the mouth, balanced, slightly fat, it is reminiscent of the wine of the New World. It has discreet tannins, black fruit, licorice, aroma in the mouth that lasts.
Also very good value for money.
