Near the mouth of the Strimona River and across from Mount Athos, at Kokkinochori of Kavala lies the Estate Books Land with its state-of-the-art wine factory.

Both Gerovassiliou and Tsaktsarli have a long and highly successful history with regards to the production of Greek wine. The former began his career as a wine specialist in the Karra Estate; the name of his own private vineyard has accompanied some of the most famous Greek red wines (Karra Estate, Limnio, Syrah). Today the name Gerovassiliou Estate is one of the best in Greek wine production. 



Tsaktsarli began his career with the Lazaridi Estate, and he too won much admiration through the private wines he produced (Amethistos white and red, Chateau Julia Merlot, Chateau Julia Chardonnay). Like Gerovassiliou, his second step was to participate in the production of wines on the Estate Books Land.

The current estate is found at an altitude of 300 meters above sea level, in an area where the climate is exceptionally favorable for vineyards- an area, in fact, that was home to an incredibly successful vineyard in antiquity: the 'Vivlia Hora' Estate. Descending from the top of Mt Paggeou, a cool breeze flows continuously in the summer. Throughout the rest of the year, there are constant strong winds, thus preventing pestilence and diseases from interfering with the grape’s cultivation. The naturally dry soil, combined with the humidity that comes from the nearby sea and the Strimona river, creates a climate that is particularly favorable for grape growth.



Within these ideal conditions, Gerovassiliou and Tsaktsarli  cultivate the most suitable Greek and French varieties: Assyrtiko, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay for the white wines, while Cabernet, Merlot, Agioritiko, Syrah for the red wines. There are plans for expanding the vineyard, which will be accomplished after extensive research.

The "Estate Books Land" belongs to the company "Oinopedion S.A." and was established in 1998. The one billion Drachmae (or today 3.000.000 euros) put into the estate resulted in a state-of-the-art modern wine factory, with the capacity for 450.000 bottles, along with designated areas for wine tasting and a guest house.
