During the last couple of years several restaurants, specializing in local, Greek cuisine, have opened in Athens. But the new restaurants featuring Cretan cuisine, are the ones with the most customers, thus giving rise to a new gastronomic trend. The latest arrival, in one of the most central areas of the city, Tsakaloff Street in Kolonaki, is “Dakos.”
Dakos was opened by the owners of a meat producing company called “Creta Farm,” as the first of what will soon be many restaurants centered on Cretan Cuisine.Though the environment is modern, but not particularly noteworthy, it is the food that sets the restaurant apart. Every dish offers a delightful surprise, and the prices are quite reasonable. With its fast service, low-key environment, and simple dishes, I would probably recommend the eatery for a lunch break or a quick meal before a night out.
Loyal to the spirit of Cretan hospitality, the food is not only delicious, but the portions generously large. Be sure to order the “dakos,” the uniquely Cretan appetizer from which the restaurant received its name. Also try the salad with chicken; it might not sound too exciting, but just wait and see. Another crowd pleaser is the dish with traditional sausages. Do not leave without trying the macaroni boiled in meat broth and prepared with kid. It’s delicious!
