New Year's Meatpie from Epiros
The Epirotic pies are famous throughout Greece. This savory and aromatic meat pie is made for the special occasion of New Year's Eve.
1 package phyllo for pies
1 kg lamb meat cut in small pieces
1 kg onions diced
100 g Carolina rice
200 g feta cheese
salt, pepper, basil and spearmint
Preheat oven at 170º C.
1. Sauté onions and meat with a little bit of butter; add salt and pepper and a bit of water until the meat softens.
2. Add the rice and let it cook for 5 minutes and then stir with the other ingredients.
3. Spread half of the leaves on the pan, add the filling and put on top the rest of the leaves. Cook for about 1 hour.
