Spiced pears wrapped in puff pastry
Deliciously aromatic and spiced pears wrapped in pastry!
6 large pears
3 tsp sugar
3 tsp cinnamon
½ tsp grated nutmeg
1 scant tsp ground fennel seed
pinch of black pepper
2 Tbs raisins
2 Tbs ouzo
3 Tbs butter
1 sheet puff pastry, cut into 6 rectangles
1 egg, lightly beaten together with 1 Tbs water
Peel the pears leaving the stems intact and core each pear. Mix together the sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, fennel seed, pepper, raisins and ouzo. Stuff a little of the spice mixture into each pear, pressing it in. Cut each rectangle of puff pastry into an "X" shape. Place a pear in the center of the "X" and lift up the sides to wrap around the fruit, overlapping and securely closing the ends with a little brush of water. Shape leaves out of the excess puff pastry if desired and stick onto the pear as a decoration, adhering with a little water. Continue with the remaining pears and puff pastry. Brush with egg wash and bake on a parchment lined baking sheet in a preheated oven at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes, or until golden.
