General Description: The atmosphere at Matilde’s is unique in comparison to the rest of the Athens restaurant scene. The place is young and has a spicy feel to it. All are welcome, no matter what the age or style. I loved the warm decoration that combines the traditional trattoria look with a glamorous but simple “hunting” lodge interior. Casual, fun and with heart! The whole restaurant is characterized by an eagerness to become better at what they do! A great choice for those who feel satisfied that they have tasted the glory of Greek cuisine and are looking for a break!
Food Impressions: The quality of the ingredients is really fantastic. The pizza is really excellent and you will find interesting toppings. The only negative thing I could say is that for a pizza bar it has a small selection of pizzas.
Price per person: 35- 45 Euros.
Value for Money: The price matches the quality and the quantity.
Recommendations: Sit at the bar before dinner to enjoy a cocktail from the menu, and either choose one from the menu or ask for something special and the barman will delightfully experiment with your favorite ingredients. …And do try the squash pizza and the fresh mozzarella too!
Background Story: The manager, Christos Fasseas, is actually a professional chef, who loves the kitchen and its rawness to bits! It’s his first time working front of house, but he is heavily involved in the preparation! The pizzaiolo is Italian, with years of experience on his back, and the pizza dough goes through an extensive procedure before it is ready for baking in the wood oven....And the main owner is actually an Italian called Gigio Palazzo who has extensive experience in the industry having been well tested by his other two successes in New York!
