Amanda Michalopoulou is an author and a journalist. For the past few years she has been living in Berlin, always returning to Greece to enjoy her summer holidays and her mother’s cooking.
She has published five novels, two short story collections, her e-mail correspondence and a series of children’s books. Her work has been translated into English, German, Italian, Russian, Serbian, Swedish, and Czech.
Her first novel, “Yandes” (“Wishbone Memories”, Kastaniotis Editions), is mainly based on cooking; a family of cooks, passionate about food, tell the story through their Mediterranean recipes.
From 1990 to 2007 she worked as a columnist for Kathimerini, a daily, Greek newspaper, and for several years she has been writing chronicles for the magazine Gynaika. She has also participated in cultural broadcasts on Greek Public Television. Her belief is that our culture is constantly revealed around us, even in our ignorance; it isexpressed when we eat, walk, read, even when we think.
