In 1971 Mantinia was recognized as an OPAP (VQPRD) region, which includes Levidi up north, Mantinia and Nestani to the east, Tripoli at the centre, and Corythio in the southeast. 70 % of wines from Mantinia are of the Moschofilero variety, while the other 30% are Asproudi and other varieties.
Moschofilero is a native variety and it belongs to the “fileria” family. It is aromatic, with divine muscat aromas. The vinification is mainly fresh, without the use of barrels, while many producers are beginning to use the oak method. This white or rose wine balances a high level of acidity, with low level of alcohol, and are extremely rich in flavour, combining rose and citrus aromas.
Mantinia wines are best suited to subtle tastes, such as fish, white meats in light sauce, white cheese and fruit.
