Although the region of Alsace was the bone of contention between the German and French for centuries, today, it is a special French region, in which the two nations have created an extraordinary amalgamation of cultures.

Even though the region has been under French control since World War II, the fascinating fusion of the past with the present, of different cultures, is everywhere to be seen. You will discover age–old castles, gothic churches, and traditional villages, as well as cosmopolitan cities with gourmet cuisine, exquisite vineyards, and fine breweries.

Begin your tour from the historic Strasbourg, home to the headquarters of the European Parliament, the Council of Europe, and the European Court of Human Rights. The city has all the characteristics of a modern city without however having the frenetic rhythms of a large urban center. The numerous theaters, the Opera, the museums, the fine restaurants, and the many beer houses, leave you with the overwhelming sense of the “good life.” Definitely visit the famous Cathedral, as well at the Petite France area, the oldest and best preserved area of the city.

Continue your journey to the city of Colmar, but as you reach the center of the city, prepare yourself for a journey through time. The city's atmosphere and colors transport you to the Middle Ages, while the exquisite churches, houses, and archways convey the romanticism of the Renaissance. The city is one of the best wine centers of the region, so if you are a fan of good wine, you are at the right place.

Also visit the industrial capital of Alsace, the city of Mulhousе. You have probably lost your interest, having just read the word “industrial,” but this city promises to surprise you with its hidden beauties. Throughout the year, large festivals are held in all the large cities of Alsace, such as the Ιnternational Music Festival at Colmar, the Jazz Festival at Μulhouse and Strasbourg, and many more.

If one of your greatest pleasures is not only to learn new things, but to taste them as well, then you should be aware that Alsace is a seductive gastronomic paradise. It is one of the regions of France with the most remarkable restaurants, where traditional cuisine is combined, boldly and successfully, with avant-garde flavors. Each plate is an invitation to a new savory experience that will certainly satisfy your palate. Try all the fabulous plates, such as foie gras, fromage frais tart, kougelhopf, munster valley pie, baekonofe, pikeperch, and onion flame. Then, accompany them with one of the many flavorful beers, or one of the excellent regional wines. As a special combination of German thought with refined French tastes, the cuisine, like the native population of Alsace, has a uniquely exquisite character.
