For those who knew him, Yannis Psilakis belonged to the category of men whose integrity, directness, and freedom of artistic expression were not the result of studies or training. They were the sound of his soul, resonating through everything he touched. His central focus was always on man, without the slightest pity. Only boldness.
But it was the same boldness that gave him true compassion. With a vision free of any tendency toward melodrama, Yannis Psilakis traveled far to strange places, meeting foreign people and spreading his message, in his own tender way, that, LOVE ALWAYS PREVAILS! And this is what his life and work was all about.
A World United presents Yannis Psilakis’ “short walk” on this planet, involving over 350 of his photographs. He depicts tribal peoples like the Mentawai tribe of Siberut island in the Indian Ocean and the Huli tribe in the mountains of Papa New Guinea. Similarly he includes the Kalash of the mountain ranges of Karakoram, the Hunzkauts of the Indian Caucasus, and the Indians Mapuche and Aymara in the Amazon and Andes of Latin America. Depicting mankind in his plethora of variations, Yannis strives to convey the message that we are all united by a common thread.
