At first sight, Apanema Resort may not look very different from other hotels in Mykonos – white cubic houses set around a swimming pool; yet ways have been found to set his hotel apart. Its 17 bedrooms have been decorated in a modern and fresh, yet romantic style, using soft shades of blue and green and furnished with smart, design furniture and the poolside restaurant and terraces are equally stylish. On the surface, it all comes across as quite trendy, but in fact the atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious. Contrary to most hotels on Mykonos, Apanema Resort is owner-run; George Akrivos has adopted a hands-on approach, taking care of his guests and all day-to-day business personally. This is one of the rare places on the island where the trendiness is easygoing, and where even if the setting is ever so ‘cool’, the welcome is always warm.
